The clock is ticking: BMW M2 Cup presents Safety-Car

The BMW M2 Cup celebrates its inaugural season in 2021. The series offers young talents and ambitious drivers a platform to demonstrate their skills as part of the DTM race programme. The single-make series uses the latest entry-level model from the BMW M Motorsport portfolio: the BMW M2 CS Racing. The field will be led by the BMW M2, the official safety car of the championship.

The safety car bears the traditional white BMW livery with blue and red elements, and gold highlights and rims. Delivering 370 hp, the road-going model will be leading out the highly competitive BMW M2 Cup field at a total of twelve races spread across six race weekends.

The BMW M2 CS Racing was developed at the same time as the road-going version. The newest member of the BMW M Motorsport range offers the performance of a thoroughbred racing car at an attractive price. The entry-level model features a S55 6-cylinder in-line engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering 365 hp.

Participants in the new championship will be given the opportunity to try out the new car at the start of May, when the series hosts its preliminary test and media day during the DTM test at the Lausitzring from 6 to 7 May. “This isn’t just about familiarising drivers with the new machinery,” explains series organiser Jörg Michaelis. “Drivers will also be able to get a feel for working with their race engineers and mechanics. The aim is to prepare everyone for the upcoming race weekends.”

Entries can be submitted up to 15 April. The season is due to start in early July at the DTM race weekend at the Norisring.
