The countdown is on: last shootout before season opener

All interested drivers should mark this date in their calendars: the last BMW M2 Cup shootout will take place at the Red Bull Ring on 14 May. At the event in Austria, the young talents can once again prove their talent in the BMW M2 CS Racing and thus secure a starting place in the one-make trophy.

“We have spent a lot of time on the race track in recent weeks and months – be it at the Experience Days or at the test,” says series manager Jörg Michaelis. “Many talents have already secured their place. With the coming shootout, we want to make it possible for the drivers to secure one of the remaining places. The event, which was initially scheduled for 9 May, will now take place on 14 May. This gives us the great opportunity to be part of the official BMW M track day. Of course, we are very happy about that.”

Participants of the one-make throphy were already part of the official DTM test at the Hockenheimring. In addition to the fixed-entry drivers, interested drivers were in Hockenheim to get to know the BMW M2 Cup in detail. In addition to laps on the track, the programme included media workshops and training sessions with the Speed Academy.

“There is a lot of interest in the cup. With the shootout, we try to give all young talents the chance of securing a place. At the same time, we use the pre-season to prepare the participants for the season – this includes fitness camps, personalised training plans as well as simulator sessions,” explains Axel Funke, Head of the Speed Academy.

The venue for the shootout is the Red Bull Ring, which was already part of the BMW M2 Cup calendar in 2021. Just one week later (20 to 22 May), the Lausitzring will host the opening round of the one-make trophy as part of the DTM programme. Thanks to the extended registration deadline, young talents who want to be part of the series still have until 17 May to secure their place.
